Archetypes lie at the heart of many storytelling forms, and this workshop explores them in their various states of existence. We look at the why and wherefore of each distinct character-type; their presence and purpose in storytelling.
This workshop can be tailored for writers, to give them an overview and an awareness of the kinds of characters they'll be creating and how to avoid stereotypes, but also make the most of the basic existence of archetypes within the audience's collective psyche.
It can also be tailored for actors, and works well as a method of approaching devised work. Additionally, it can help them identify with templates for the the initial development and exploration of characters.
Archetypes demonstrate the process of story-building and character journey, and can give actors some transparency into the writing process without bogging them down in the technicalities of the craft.
